A scientists stuyding a sequence of DNA looking for aligment of the sequence relating to the Lipl32 gene, which is present among pathogenic leptospires (a genus of gram-negative bacteria).
The alignment was performed in order to find a consensus sequence that could be used to generate a set of DNA primers and a probeto to be used in a real-time PCR assay. This assay will allow scientists to target the specific DNA sequence to detect the presence of this DNA sequence and thus infection of pathogenic leptospires in urine.
